Nestled in the heart of San Diego’s renowned Mission Hills neighborhood, this Spanish Revival home has special meaning and brings with it fond memories for my client who grew up here over four decades ago. After inheriting it from her family and before moving in, we collaborated closely to add her own design personality yet still honoring the original character of this 1920s Spanish Revival gem. Our goal was to highlight the home’s unique charm and well-preserved details such as the original gum wood trim, oak flooring, and Batchelder tiled fireplace by blending in elevated, modern furnishings, a new color palette, and custom window treatments. We kept some of the original ceiling chandeliers and wall sconces but changed out a few fixtures for a more contemporary vibe. The dining room had the biggest transformation with the addition of a luminous, elegant wallpaper, intricately carved china hutch, and a natural wood extension table that seats 10. With thoughtful care and attention to details, we proudly transformed this inherited home into a harmonious blend of traditional elegance and modern sophistication.
